Hmm.
[info]niav popped up with this one, and I found it interesting enough to try. I just have to hope it's not going to cause me to lose friends. XD

(Let's also hope I actually reply to everyone this time; that last meme killed me)

Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.

1. Mako isn't quite as awesome as I originally thought. This is mainly the fault of the writers though and not her character persay; once [info]capncosmo clued me in to how subtly her role was being misogynistically undercut, it left a bad taste in my mouth.
2. Everybody says the Gedoshu are boring as hell, but they do catch my attention in bits and pieces every so often. I wish their development could be sped up by, like, 10x though.
3. Richard Brown was AWESOME. Even if he was an insult to Americans at the same time.

I still adore Mako mostly because I can kind of identify with that kind of romantic insecurity but at the same time I can totally see what you mean, and if I think about it too much it makes me rather uncomfortable too. D: See for instance that time she just gave the Kabuto Origami to Chiaki with hardly a word.

He has a penis after all.

I can actually identify with it too, which is why she's still fairly high in the awesome meter. (Yes, I know I'm a guy. Stop laughing. :P )

OMG, traitor! Everyone knows that it's okay for a girl to identify with a boy, but totally not vice versa, because males are still the superior gender! If you identify with a girl, then your male privelage cared will be taken away. Now return to thinking females as living, breathing prizes to be won!

THIS IS TRUTH. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A DOUBLE STANDARD WHERE WOMEN TO MEN ARE CONCERNED.

1. Everyone on that team is not gay. Everyone is bi. Important distinction. XD (although I'm starting to think I only trot that excuse out when I want to pull some SWAT)
2. Ishiguro acting ridiculous in battle was refreshing in terms of action, but it was kind of stupid in terms of plot. That's not exactly the kind of thing that makes for a proper captain in any military or civilian setup. Though to be fair, becoming captain probably meant he wasn't going to be on the field much to begin with.
3. I acknowledge their right to choose what they want to do with their lives, but I can't believe 3/5 of the team just friggin quit in the finale. Do they have no sense of tenure?

PS: You have no idea how hard it was to actually choose three things about this show I didn't like.

1. Ryuki World was sort of cool, but for the most part, it was too busy terrifying me at the complete bastardization of the justice system for me to truly enjoy it.
2. I know it's all AU, but we seriously need a lot more original actors than we've been getting. When the hell is Kento Handa gonna show up?
3. Blade needs to stop screaming so friggin much. Both in Decade and in his original series.

1. While I do like Satoru/Sakura as a pairing, I really don't like how so much of her characterization centered solely around him. For as awesome as she was, what with being a serious second-in-command Pink, that was kind of shallow.
2. Every scene with Eiji and his mother was freaky as hell. What is it with Super Sentai and Kamen Rider bringing the incestuous chemistry? First Magiranger, then this, then Kabuto, then Den-O, then Kiva... it's getting rough these days.
3. Man Sentai, you were doing so good with chicks in spandex, and then you backslid. WTF.

(okay, 2 and 3 are probably things a lot of people agree on, but I couldn't help it!)

2. It doesn't help that Mother and Son look like they're of the same age.
3. THIS. EPICALLY. Although I do like how Yellow's as goofy as Natsuki though :P

I guess Japan's just following in Hollywood's footsteps. Though it was nice to see Megapink (and Kirinranger and Megayellow) again though, so I kind of forgive them.

That was actually the amusing part of it; guys were under the spandex for both Natsuki and Sakura, but they were so spot on! It was both impressive and disconcerting at the same time. XD

Power Rangers RPM

Offtopic: It's not my fandom, but I heard there's going to be a crossover between the 2000s and 1980's TMNT cartoons.

1. There are a lot of people in fandom who claim to not be able to see this pairing and that potential, but I think they're all blind, because from what I see, everyone in this season seems to have chemistry with everyone. So to me, RPM joins a small few esteemed seasons (In Space, Time Force, SPD, and Operation Overdrive being the others) where I could easily see the entire team in one giant orgy (Dino Thunder comes close with an OT3, but no cigar). Ironically, Go-onger felt the same way... until the Wings came in. I imagine it'll be the same here; hard to have a non-icky full team OT+ when there's siblings on the team.
2. There's bits and pieces of Dillon and Ziggy's characterization that bug me. I like them, no doubt whatsoever, but they're not the perfect, faultless bastions of Rangers-to-be-adored that others think they are, IMO.
3. Vasquez needs more airtime, like whoa. I've seen her walking around the command center, but haven't heard her actually say something since episode... 3? Assuming she was the one doing the radio directions.

Also, coolbeans on the TMNT thing. That's not really my fandom either, but despite the fact that I haven't actually watched much of it since the 80's, I know somewhat about the modern cartoon, I saw the recent CGI film, and there will always be a soft spot in my heart for HEROES IN A HALFSHELL.

2. What specific issues do you have with Dillon and Ziggy's characterization?

3. Who? I tried looking her up on PR Central but for some reason I keep losing my internet connection when I try to go there.

2. Dillon's loner tendencies go a little overboard for me at times, while Ziggy (rarely) toes the line between hilarious and overbearing. These are both actually realistic for their characters, and so don't ever become a major problem with me. It just frustrates me how some people in the fandom are treating them like... well, like Edward from Twilight. As if every single thing they do is wonderful. As if their flaws are just perfections in disguise. To me, they're more appealing because they're occasionally frustrating. I like "real" characters like that.

3. She's the woman in the command center who, in episode 1, did most of the city scanning and warning for Colonel Truman.
