y helo thar!

Since I'm not sure exactly where you're tuning in from, I should introduce myself; I'm a 25 year old male. Generally on the internet you'll see me at various forums or communities using the alias Arrow (or Arrowned if that one's already taken). I only selected this name for my LiveJournal account because both of those were long gone (and I kind of regret doing that; everybody and their mom now associates me with Bridge from Power Rangers S.P.D., and while I enjoyed Bridge's character, he's absolutely nothing like me). Thankfully, I was able to snatch Arrow just fine at Dreamwidth.

My profile goes into a little more detail about me, but generally you can expect from this journal a hell of a lot of discussion on video games, Power Rangers, and Tokusatsu. If you're not down with that, friending me may be risky business.

Personal projects: I make music, write fanfic, and run websites. Sometimes I'll discuss those here as well. Most of my music is made via MIDI and ends up at vgmusic.com; while I'd like to get something on OverClocked ReMix some day, and I actually feel that my composition skills are up to the challenge, my sample sets/production abilities are not, so that'll be a while coming. What music I've done can be found at my personal website. As for my fic, most of it is, again, Power Rangers-based. Here's a master list of what I've written, for those interested in that. The primary website I'm working on at the moment, surprisingly not the one I just linked, is Rangerwiki, yet another PR-based item, this one being an attempt to make a trustworthy wiki for PR with all the canon information anyone would ever need.

Forums I normally hang out at: Metroid Metal, OverClocked ReMix, Power Rangers United, Rangerboard, and VGMusic.com. Forums I drop in at on occasion, but not as regularly as the above: Metroid Database, Noteworthy Software, Omidia, SONIC EATS RINGS, Sonic Robo Blast 2, The Vinculum, The Ur-Quan Masters, and Zone Radio Network. As I make the music for SRB2, I'm an administrator at that forum, but I'm just a regular user at the rest.

I figured for ease of purpose, I'd make an LJ post detailing my fics. The ones I've finished, the ones I'm writing, the ones I'm planning, and the ones that are sitting on my HD in purgatory because I'm not sure if I'm going to do them or not. When I make an update that people need to see about, I'll just be relinking to this post so they can see the whole shebang.

No, this isn't all Power Rangers. There's plenty of other stuff in here too. :P

See the cut. Love the cut. )

This post, like my journal's introductory post, is future dated to 2025 so that it stays at the top of the blog. If you're directly reading itsbuttery.livejournal.com, then whatever post is below this one is actually the latest journal entry.

So I switched back to Firefox this morning. I've been debating for weeks whether to keep using Google Chrome or revert back; I originally switched to Chrome because my old PC was low on RAM and Firefox kept guzzling it all. I've heard Firefox 3.5 has issues though, so I haven't actually upgraded yet.

Things I like about switching back: Add-ons, I've missed you! Nice to be able to control Winamp through my browser again. Also nice to see how much new e-mail or RSS feeds I have at a glance without requiring Gtalk to be open. And now that I have Twitter, TwitterFox is pretty nifty. I also really prefer Firefox's quick search setup over Chrome's. You can set up a quicksearch with a few mouse-clicks in Firefox at any time, while Chrome forces you to use a webpage's normal search a minimum number of times (15 or 20 I think) before it auto-adds quick options for that page, options that you can't go back and change. Too, Firefox's quicksearch is available for any site you set it up with, while if you don't use a site's quicksearch often enough in Chrome, it drops it from the rotation.

Things I don't like about switching back: WHY IS FIREFOX USING 193MB OF RAM WHEN I HAVE ONLY ONE TAB OPEN YEARGGHBLE

...so I'm considering going back to Google Chrome again. XD

So I finally got around to playing Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. It's been years since I've had access to a DS, so despite the fact that this game is almost four years old, I'm impressed with the leap in graphical and audio fidelity from Aria of Sorrow (though I'm not impressed with the silly anime-style portrait switchover). Every monster has a unique death sequence, just like in Symphony of the Night. The music is gorgeous... but it was primarily composed by Michiru Yamane, so that's no surprise. And I loved Aria's whole gameplay setup, so its return in Dawn with extra benefits (like abilities becoming more powerful when you absorb more of the relevant souls, or being able to fuse souls and weaponry, or the Doppleganger soul that lets you switch between two sets of weapon/armor/soul equips) makes me a very happy gamer.

My only problem with the game so far (other than how hard it is to draw Magic Seals, which is obviously more a problem with the fact that I'm doing this with a mouse and not a stylus) is the Creature (yeah, the Frankenstein dude). That guy has a RETARDED soul drop rate. A guide I looked at claimed 1%, but Peeping Eye had the same, and I got his soul in the Lost Village within 20 minutes. I killed literally thousands of Creatures, to the point where after hours of backtracking into the same room over the course of two days I had bumped Soma's stats up from level 15 to 28 and still hadn't gotten the soul yet. 1%'s gotta be a lie; it's probably more like .01%. :(

I guess I'll just have to come back later with a boosted Luck stat and this game's equivalent of the Soul Eater Ring.

----------

Speaking of Castlevania, Lords of Shadow looks super interesting, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm getting sick and tired of the tendency of everyone in the movie, TV, and video game industries to have gotten reboot-addicted in the past 5 years. I admit that it's necessary in some cases (Batman, Superman, Battlestar Galactica), but honestly. You're all going overboard.

"Wait wat? Disgaea an FFT aren’t RPGS! They’re SRPGS, it’s a differente genre ;o"

So apparently Strategy RPG's aren't actually RPG's. I don't even know what to say to that. XD

So we were discussing Billy Mays' death in OverClocked ReMix's IRC channel, and people were asking how he died. Somebody linked this.

I lol'd so hard.

soundtrack: (The Evolution of Robin Thicke) Robin Thicke - All Night Long

This month was already bad enough with the news of David Carradine, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson dying, but then I wake up today to learn that Billy Mays passed away as well.

Seriously realty, wtf.

EDIT: Though I did get the awesome mental image of him at heaven's gates, strolling up to St. Peter, and going "HI, BILLY MAYS HERE"

[info]niav popped up with this one, and I found it interesting enough to try. I just have to hope it's not going to cause me to lose friends. XD

(Let's also hope I actually reply to everyone this time; that last meme killed me)

Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.

Not only did he bring amazing change to the music industry, but he also affected the video game industry as well. Watch as MJ fights enemies and rescues children via "Dance Magic". Also known as "spinning around and screaming HOOOO!"

Happy birthday, [info]shurimon!

I believe that's it for June b-days. Now I can rest easy until July 10 or so. XD
